Ten years ago, my two girls and I packed everything we could into a small car and drove 1,600 miles from Chicago to Texas. We were starting over after my divorce.

I was supposed to be strong for her, but she was strong for me.

The next morning, I decided I would not give up.

I put on my best suit. I dropped my girls off at school.

Then I drove down the main road and walked into every business I saw.

I handed out resumes. I asked for chances. I didn’t stop.

I told myself: We did not come this far to quit.

That choice changed everything.
